DANGEROUS

By Tom Smith

TREVOR

What are you talking about?

ALEXANDER

I don't know if I can make it any plainer. I don't love you.  Sorry.

TREVOR

You said things to me…  I don't understand.  You told me you loved me.  You told me you'd never loved anyone but me…you told me that!

ALEXANDER

There's someone else, a man I want more than anyone in the world.  Sorry.

TREVOR

What other man?  Who?

ALEXANDER

It doesn't matter.  It's over.  Sorry.

TREVOR

You said you loved me!

ALEXANDER

You'll be able to find another boyfriend now that I've broken you in.

TREVOR

Why are you doing this?

ALEXANDER

It's how it was always meant to be.  Sorry.

TREVOR

(attacking him.)  I gave up everything for you: the church, my identity, my soul.

ALEXANDER

Sorry.

TREVOR

Shut up!  You do love me!  You do!

ALEXANDER

I don't.  I can't.  Sorry.

TREVOR

Why are you doing this to me?  Why?

ALEXANDER

Sor—sorry.

TREVOR

Who are you?  What kind of man are you?  (HE staggers to the door.)  Why have you done this?  (HE exits.)

ALEXANDER

Sorry.  (HE breaks down into tears for a few moments.  HE dries his eyes, but the tears continue.  MARCUS enters.)

MARCUS

C'mon, Alexander, it isn't as bad as all that.

ALEXANDER

How did you—?

MARCUS

Do you think I would want to miss it?  I'm only sorry I had to enjoy it from the hall.

ALEXANDER

I've killed him, you know.  I've killed him.

MARCUS

It would appear so.  You can almost smell the victory, can't you?

ALEXANDER

You call that victory?  Destroying a good man?

MARCUS

No, destroying a vain one.  The victory isn't you over Trevor: it's my victory over you. I wanted to see if what I've always suspected was true: that vanity controls everything you do.  And it does!

ALEXANDER

You did all this…just to fuck with me?

MARCUS

I didn't do anything.  It was your own grossly inflated ego that drove you to this!

ALEXANDER

How could you!  We had an understanding.  We weren't ever supposed to fuck each other over!

MARCUS

We weren't supposed to fall in love with anyone either.

ALEXANDER

Forget all this!  You owe me for screwing your little trainer!  And I intend to collect.  Now!  (HE grabs MARCUS roughly, who pushes him away.)

MARCUS

I choose whom I fuck and when.  And it is neither you nor now.

ALEXANDER

I'm not a boy!  I won't be cast aside like your music director!

MARCUS

I cast you aside a long time ago.

ALEXANDER

You don't want to do this, Marcus.  You don't want to know the lengths I'll go to get what I deserve.

MARCUS

You've already gotten what you deserve!

ALEXANDER

Will you give me what you owe me?  (MARCUS starts to speak but ALEXANDER cuts him off) No speeches, no witty comebacks. A nod for yes, a shake for no.  One simple gesture is all I need.

(MARCUS softens, and slowly crosses to ALEXANDER who begins to undo his zipper.  MARCUS looks into ALEXANDER's eyes.  HE flips ALEXANDER off and exits)

Let the games begin.
